Our Mistake on The Soaps We Trust in the UK

Sometimes we are way too trusting here in the UK. We tend to trust brands that are attempting to sell to us based on natural and healthy. Sadly though this is not the case, and soaps are no exception to this discovery.

Brands make their money based on how well they can convince the buyer that they are being truthful. Emotions are leveraged, along with perceived vulnerabilities around a topic. Teenage angst over transition to adulthood being a classic example.

In short, the marketeers will segment us all down to the nth degree based on how they can herd us all into "buying groups". Then the wheels of marketing power and corporate budgets set to work trying to convince you that your world will stop turning unless you use their products.

Sadly, there is nobody amongst us who can honestly say they have not been taken in by one form of marketing or another, based on the emotional response we have displayed towards their product. It can often be a true "Marmite moment" for some!

This video is around a half hour and focused on soap brands that have commonly sold in large numbers here in the UK, and for many years. Like so many others, I can honestly say that some of these were a surprise to me.

My thanks to the author of the video.

If of interest, we carry a range of artisan soaps that are genuinely all natural and are made right here in the UK. Alternatively, how about getting inspired to have a try at making some soaps for yourself? You will know for sure what goes in to their production then.
